The imagination runs wild in this old Victorian brought up to date for a fiction
writer and a video game developer who love sci-fi.

This beautiful Victorian built in 1906 brought lots of room but awkward angles. 
The clients, a mid-30s couple in the creative arts, wanted to feel cocooned
when spending weekends in bed reading sci-fi and playing Settlers of Catan.

The primary bedroom is in what was once the attic, so had some strange spatial layouts. We custom-made a headboard to fill the room’s negative space, and designed a rug to connect an awkward alcove—perfect for reading—with the mainpartof the room. Greens, browns, and sand tones comprise the color scheme, evokingDune or Endor. Of note are two space age lamps by Pierre Cardin and Mario Bellini; and several insectoid pieces:
a sculpture (JugglBug) by Nick Taylor, a chair by Sara Bond, and a rope-covered dresser made by Christian Astuguevieille, the underrated whimsical sensualist.

The centerpiece of the living room is the massive book collection. We designed a sofa
to provide maximum sitting space, then brought in a gaming table (the clients love boardgames) as visual complement to the home’s original fireplace right in the middle of the room. For this well-read couple, we added two wild paintings with Japanese lettering
by Masami Teroka, a cheeky Jeffrey Sincich text-piece, and a ceramic sculpture covered
in what looks like the Indus Valley script.
